This was a great first episode to a great show. Right off the bat, before anything can be fully shocking, things start getting pretty Supernatural. When Mrs. Winchester tragically dies in the mysterious murder, everyone can tell that this will send the boys into a whirlpool of adventure.
The effects for a low budget TV show turn out great; almost as if it were an acclaimed Grade-A blockbuster.
The writing on the show is innovational and original giving the show a unique catch to the audience's yearn for a cool, new series.
One word:
Sam and Dean are both trully appealing to both sexes. Girls love the strong, handsome types, while the men like the ass-kicking, smart alec and geek.
Even though the story takes place in supernatural settings, the character composition are very believable. The brothers have the same arguements, same pranks, and same conversations that real brothers have.
Also, the research put into this episode's baddie was very well done. A La Llorona (or the Woman in White) is a recorded anomaly in Spanish culture. Instead of making up a random ghost story to spook the viewer, the writers actually take mysterious folklore legends and expand on them in the shows.
If it's not Sam and Dean or the creative and humorous writing, then what else is there? The dark and forboding sense that something will jump out? The unnerving feeling that there just might be something under the bed or hiding in the closet?
Who knows. But one thing is for sure, Supernatural has definitely made scary turn sexy.
Any comments?
